Making Space for War Childhood Experiences: Ukrainian Dialogic Children’s Books
This study explores how contemporary Ukrainian warthemed children’s literature incorporates dialogic elements to facilitate children’s expression of their war experiences. A qualitative analysis was conducted on four selected books that employ interactive techniques, such as drawing and writing, to engage young readers in reflective participation. Based on a corpus of over 100 titles, the research highlights how these books create a space for children to voice their experiences while navigating power dynamics between adult creators and implied child readers. The study underscores the significance of these methods in supporting children affected by war through literature.
