The Forms of Time. The Time of the Protaginists. Temporal Categories in Selected Literary Works by Samuel Beckett The article discusses the concept of time in selected literary works by Samuel Beckett, including his essay Proust, plays and prose. The following temporal categories have been described with respect to their meaning and function in the text: imperfectness, advent, repetition and dullness or change and vigil. The construction of the timeline infl uences the existential condition of the protagonists, who remain undefi ned, face a meaningless life and go through identity crises. They are trapped in moments which cannot be defi ned as the present, the past or the future; the borders between temporal dimensions dissolve in the characters’ psychological time.
