Preferencje wyborcze studentów Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki projektu badawczego Koła Naukowego Geografii Politycznej
i obyczajowych młodzieży uniwersyteckiej.
The article is a result of a research that was performed at the University of Warsaw from
March 2015 till November 2015. It was an election period in Poland (presidential elections
were held in May 2015 and parliamentary elections in October 2015). The research project
was performed by POLIGEOS – Students Research Group in Political Geography and
Geopolitics. The primary objective of the study was to collect data about political preferences
of students and to determine the political, economic and ideological views represented
by students of each faculty of the University.
The results of the project have shown that voter turnout is much higher among students
than on the total who are entitled to vote in Poland. The second conclusion is that the
composition of the new parliament would be different if the only voters were students.
Another interesting observation is that students not always vote for the parties that they
identify themselves. Another research’s focus were students’ views. In general, students are
quite equally divided between the Right (40%) and the Left (32%). 16,6% represent the
central views. In economic and ideological views differences are more noticeable. In both of
these realms dominate liberal views. Basing on questionnaires survey we can also argue that
Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, Faculty of Geology, Faculty of History
and Faculty of Physics are the right-wing faculties while Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology,
Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Oriental Studies and Faculty of Applied Social Sciences
and Resocialisation are the left-wing faculties. Liberal views on economy are represented
by Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, Faculty of Law and Administration, Faculty
of Economic Sciences and Faculty of Journalism and Political Science. The state interventions
in the economy are more popular among students of Faculty of Biology, Faculty of
History and Faculty of Oriental Studies. Ideologically the most liberal are students of Faculty
of Oriental Studies, Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology, Faculty of Education and Faculty
of Applied Social Sciences and Resocialisation. On the other hand the most conservative
are the students of Faculty of History and Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies.
Women more often have left-wing or central views while men rather right-wing. In economy
women do not have extreme views. They choose mixed economy while men clearly
choose liberal economy. Ideologically women are more liberal while men on an equal footing
place the liberal, conservatives and the moderate views.
