Współczesne wyobrażenia dotyczące pracy pisarskiej i charakteru biblijnego tekstu bazują często na współczesnej rozwiniętej kulturze piśmiennej i są nieadekwatne w odniesieniu do ksiąg Biblii hebrajskiej. Teksty biblijne zawierają przekazy ukształtowane w kulturze oralnej (pierwotnej oralności). Ponadto, na wczesnym etapie pisarskiego kształtowania tekstu, służył on kulturze oralnej. Proces tworzenia literackiej kompozycji był złożony, literary works were created throughout a long process with the participation of many successive writers. Dla studiów biblijnych jest to dzisiaj podwójne wyzwanie.

Shaping the biblical message in the culture of early literacy: The modern conceptions about the literary work and the nature of the biblical text are often based on the contemporary literate culture. As such, they are inadequate in relation to the books of the Hebrew Bible. The biblical texts contain the transmissions formed in the culture of primary orality. Moreover, at an early stage of development the literate text served the oral culture. The process of the creation of a literary composition was by all means complex and the literary works have been formed in a long process involving the participation of many successive writers. This was at the same time both the transmission and the development of the tradition. On the one hand, the oral-literate dynamics of the biblical texts and on the other, the specific formative process of the written transmission open up the new perspectives for the understanding and the interpretation of the biblical text. This is a double challenge for biblical studies nowadays.
