Foreign and Security Policy of the Republic of Serbia

The aim of the chapter is to analyze internal, and foremost, external aspects of foreign and security policy of the Republic of Serbia. The mentioned policy is divided into four periods such as: the years 1987/1989 – 2000, 2000-2003, 2004-2012 and 2012 – 2016. In this chapter, the author has concentrated on the years 2000 - 2016, with an indication of the most significant events in the previous years. The next step is to present directions of the foreign and security policy of Serbia. First of all, the author takes bilateral relations with the post-Yugoslav states into consideration and major actors in a multi-polar world such as: Russia, USA, China and Turkey. Secondly, relations among international organisation such as: UE, NATO, UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and Serbia are stressed. Thirdly, the regional cooperation is shown as mutual support in transforming and maintaining (or not) good relations among post-Yugoslav states. The last aspect focuses on the Serbian diaspora, mainly in the Western Balkan region.
