Multiculturalism and regional strategic planning

The issue of multiculturalism has been included in strategic plans 11 out of 16 provinces. No mention of the coexistence of different values and cultural traditions in strategies of five provinces: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Lubuskie, Mazowieckie, Świętokrzyskie and Wielkopolskie should not arouse any surprise. In these provinces a small percentage of people declare themselves a nationality other than Polish. Moreover there are a few national and ethnic associations in their area. With regard to rest of provinces it is possible to divide them into two groups – those whose strategic plans include issues of multiculturalism in the diagnosis, and therefore only indicate the existence of cultural diversity, and those whose development strategies take into account multiculturalism, both in the diagnosis and prognosis, at the different levels of planning – within the confines of the vision, mission, goals or specific actions.
