In the face of war... Polish Army in Lwóws preparations for the effects of armed conflict (autumn 1938 – summer 1939)

The activities of the Polish army of the interwar period, in addition to the tasks characteristic of each country's army, were to develop and maintain continuous cooperation with civilian authorities and the population in the region of deployment. This cooperation mainly concerned the scope of increasing the general state of defense. Actions to train the population or prepare the area for the effects of the war were intensified. The main research problem of the work is the role played by the Polish Army in the process of preparing Lwów and its inhabitants in the event of war from autumn 1938 to summer 1939. The article shows the directions of undertaken actions and – if possible – their effects. The source basis of the work are materials from the archives of Poland, Great Britain and Ukraine as well as studies and the daily press.

Wojsko Polskie okresu międzywojennego, poza zadaniami typowymi dla armii każdego państwa, miało rozwijać i utrzymywać stałą współpracę z władzami cywilnymi oraz ludnością w regionie dyslokowania. Współdziałanie to dotyczyło przede wszystkim zakresu podwyższania ogólnego stanu obronności. Intensyfikowano działania na rzecz przeszkolenia ludności czy przygotowania terenu na skutki wojny. Głównym problem badawczym pracy jest zagadnie roli, jaką odegrało Wojsko Polskie w procesie przygotowania Lwowa oraz jego mieszkańców na wypadek wojny od jesieni 1938 roku do lata 1939 roku. W artykule ukazano kierunki podejmowanych działań oraz – o ile było to możliwe – ich efekty. Podstawę źródłową pracy stanowią materiały z archiwów Polski, Wielkiej Brytanii i Ukrainy oraz opracowania i prasa codzienna.
