Seismic Hazard Analysis Using AHP GIS at Duzce Vicinity in Turkey
Duzce, lying in the Alpine Himalayan earthquake belt, indeed is an earthquake-prone and it has vulnerability to subject the hazards from moderate and large magnitude earthquakes. There is a real need for creditable seismic zoning of the Duzce city, which lies near the active North Anatolian Fault Zonu (NAFZ). A few researchers had developed the seismic hazard map for Duzce area based on the seismological data. In this study, seismic hazard of the Duzce City is microzoned by integrating seismological, geological and geotechnical themes on Geographic Information System (GIS) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) model are applied to map seismic hazard zonation qualitatively. The potential seismic hazard microzonation (SHM) map is further classified into five three: Very High, High, Low. The most dangerous area is the western part of Duzce city which is near the Duzce fault. Near the Duzce Fault and the south portion of city suffer high seismic hazard. Liquefaction effect could occur along the Asarsuyu river bank. This SHM map will be very useful for calculating seismic risk assessment and also making disaster mitigation plans to lessen the seismic risk for Duzce city. The main inputs for data integration in this study are peak ground acceleration (PGA), liquefaction potential index (LPI), site condition, soil condition.
