Auroville definiuje się jako utopijny twór stworzony na kształt państwa-miasta, dysponujący szczególnym rodzajem podmiotowości prawnej i politycznej. Pierwszorzędną ideą przyświecającą jego twórcom było dążenie do budowy miejsca wolnego od podziałów politycznych, etnicznych czy wyznaniowych, w pełni samowystarczalnego konsumpcyjnie oraz przyjaznego środowisku. Celem rozdziału pozostaje objaśnienie modelu funkcjonowania społeczności Auroville, której władze choć deklarują sekularyzm, rozumiany jako rozdział państwa od religii, promują pośród mieszkańców specyficzne praktyki o charakterze duchowym. Uwagę zwrócono na kwestie ideologiczne, filozoficzne oraz wyznaniowe, na bazie których podmiot ewoluował. Ponadto, wyjaśniono podstawę prawną funkcjonowania społeczności. Uwzględniono również stanowisko organizacji międzynarodowych deklarujących ochronę aurovillskich wartości. Jako egzemplifikację wyróżniono głównie Organizację Narodów Zjednoczonych ds. Oświaty, Nauki i Kultury (UNESCO). W ostatniej części analizie poddano komponent duchowy – jego uwarunkowania ugruntowane dzięki założycielce wspólnoty, cechy doktryny oraz dążenia do wykreowania specyficznej ścieżki religijności budowanej w oparciu o nakaz sekularyzacji.

Auroville is defined as a utopian entity created in the form of a citystate, possessing a unique form of legal and political subjectivity. The primary idea guiding its creators was the aspiration to build a place free from political, ethnic, or religious divisions, fully self-sustainable in consumption, and environmentally friendly. The component of a distinct culture and associated customs occupies a significant place in describing the phenomenon. The chapter's objective remains to elucidate the model of Auroville community functioning, whose authorities, although professing secularism understood as the separation of state and religion, promote among residents specific spiritually oriented practices. Attention is focused on ideological, philosophical, and religious issues based on which the entity evolved. Furthermore, the legal basis for the community's functioning is explained. The introduction describes the research field, the goals of the article, the research question, and the methods and techniques used. Subsequently, a description of the historical development of the city is provided. Additionally, the legal and political status prevailing in Auroville is identified and explained as a distinct entity on the territory of India. The position of international organizations declaring the protection of Auroville's values is also considered. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is mainly highlighted as an exemplification. In the final part of the analysis, the spiritual component is examined – its foundations grounded by the community's founder, the characteristics of the doctrine, and the aspirations to create a specific path of religiosity built on the mandate of secularization.
