50-lat polskiej Olimpiady Geograficznej: idea, realizacja i wpływ na edukację

Olimpiada Geograficzna od 1974 r. stanowi integralną częścią polskiej edukacji. Nawiązując do Jubileuszu 50-lecia Olimpiady Geograficznej, w artykule przedstawiono historię i cele tej Olimpiady oraz jej wkład w popularyzowanie wiedzy geograficznej wśród młodzieży szkolnej. W opracowaniu wykorzystano literaturę, dane źródłowe, zestawienia statystyczne oraz archiwalne materiały dokumentacyjne z zasobów Komitetu Głównego Olimpiady Geograficznej. Zebrane informacje i dane jednoznacznie wskazują na istotną rolę Olimpiady w rozwijaniu zainteresowania geografią, podnoszeniu poziomu wiedzy geograficznej uczniów i jej stosowania w działaniach praktycznych. O skali tego wieloetapowego konkursu geograficznego świadczy udział w zawodach ponad 76 tys. uczniów. Młodzi polscy geografowie prezentują bardzo wysoki poziom wiedzy i umiejętności geograficznych. Ich wysokie kompetencje potwierdzają także sukcesy osiągane na międzynarodowych olimpiadach geograficznych, gdzie zdobyli ponad 110 medali i wyróżnień. Ponadto w opracowaniu zamieszczono informacje i szczegółowe dane odnoszące się do nauczycieli-opiekunów oraz szkół, z których wywodzili się zawodnicy.

The Geography Olympiad has been an integral part of the Polish education system since 1974. This article, written to mark the Olympiad’s 50th anniversary, presents its history, objectives, and contribution to the popularisation of geographical knowledge among school students. The study is based on a review of literature, source data, statistical analyses, and archival documents from the Geography Olympiad Committee. The collected information and data clearly highlight the significant role of the Olympiad in fostering interest in geography, enhancing students’ geographical knowledge, and promoting its practical application. The scale of this multistage competition is demonstrated by the participation of over 76,000 students over the past 50 years. Young Polish geographers consistently exhibit a high level of geographical knowledge and skills, as evidenced by their success in international geography competitions, where they have won over 110 medals and distinctions. Additionally, this study includes detailed information and data on the teachers who supervised the participants and the schools from which the competitors originated.
