Grounded theory method in rural development studies

Given the important role of rural areas and the complexity of challenges associated with their functioning, rural development research has emerged as a dynamic and expanding field of scholarly inquiry. Among the research methodologies employed in this domain, grounded theory has gained increasing recognition as a qualitative approach that enables the development of theoretical insights through the analysis of context-specific data. This chapter explores the current applications of grounded theory within rural development studies. It synthesizes existing literature through bibliometric analysis, identifying key publication trends, influential contributions, and dominant thematic areas. Additionally, it includes a qualitative document analysis, focusing on a selected thematic domain – namely, digital transformation. The chapter concludes with a summary of the findings and a discussion of the conclusions arising from the analysis.

Z uwagi na istotną funkcję obszarów wiejskich, a także złożoność problematyki związanej z ich funkcjonowaniem, studia nad ich rozwojem stanowią istotny, rozwijający się obszar badań. Wśród wykorzystywanych w tej dziedzinie metod badawczych uznanie zyskuje metoda teorii ugruntowanej, oparta na analizie istotnych dla tematu danych, mająca na celu rozwój teoretycznych wyjaśnień badanych zjawisk. W niniejszym rozdziale zaprezentowano dotychczasowe osiągnięcia w wykorzystaniu metody teorii ugruntowanej w studiach nad rozwojem obszarów wiejskich. Stosując metodę analizy bibliometrycznej zaprezentowano charakterystykę i syntezę istniejących badań, w tym informacje o trendach publikacyjnych, najważniejszych publikacjach i podejmowanych obszarach tematycznych. Następnie, wykorzystując metodę jakościowej analizy dokumentów, dokonano przeglądu publikacji z wybranego obszaru tematycznego, tj. transformacji cyfrowej. Rozdział kończą podsumowanie uzyskanych rezultatów i przedstawienie wniosków wynikających z przeprowadzonej analizy.
