Hypertension or high blood pressure is often called a silent killer because it is a deadly disease that shows no early symptoms. It is the single most significant risk factor for heart disease, congestive heart failure, stroke, kidney disease or heart attack. The hypertension is caused mainly by environmental factors which include: poor diets and eating habits, weight problems (obesity), stress, anxiety, lack of physical exercise, smoking and excessive alcohol. However, this factors can be controlled through lifestyle changes and prevention behaviors. The most recommended are: healthy weight maintenance, low sodium diet, avoiding tobacco, limiting alcohol intake, moderate physical activity, self-control of blood pressure and reduce stress.
