Histological diagnosis: Arteriosclerosis cerebri gradu mediocri.Autopsy examination of 75-year-old patient was performed. Neuropathological evaluation in light microscopy was based on brain paraffin sections stained with Hematoxylin-eosin and van Gieson method.Small and medium caliber vessels showed fibrous and vitreous changes. In single vessels, appendage hypertrophy was seen. The cerebral cortex showed slight cellular thinning, especially in layer III cortex. Sparse steatosis of the large pyramidal cells of the cortex and the dentate nucleus of the cerebellum was observed. The cerebellum showed thinning of the Purkinje cell layer. The meninges had an increased amount of fibrous tissue.

Naczynia małego i średniego kalibru wykazują zmiany włókniste i szkliste ,W pojedyńczych naczyniach widać znaczne bujanie sródbłonka oraz przerost przydanki .W korze mózgowej niewielkie przerzedzenia komórkowe zwłaszcza wwarstwie III kory . Nieliczne stłuszczenia dużych komórek piramidowych kory mózgowej i jądra zębatego móżdżku . Móżdżek wykazuje przerzedzenie warstwy komórek Purkiniego . Opony ze zwiększoną ilością tkanki włóknistej.
