Muslim cemetery in Rajasthan (Iconographic document)

Pitchers lying on the graves indicate a cultural syncretism, combine elements of Islam and Hinduism in post-mortem ritual. Pitcher is one of the artifacts from the Hindu imagery, and is associated with feeding the souls of the dead. At the cemetery, the dead are buried from the Ismailites, reflecting the great diversity of forms of worship in India and acculturation processes taking place on borderlands
