According to the owner of the photo, it is a keepsake of his sister’s first Holy Communion

Fotografia przedstawia około dziesięcioletnią dziewczynkę w białej sukience do kolan ozdobionej gałązkami mirtu, trzymającą w prawej ręce płonącą świecę, a w drugiej różaniec i święty obrazek. Dziewczynka ma na nogach białe pończochy i takież pantofle, a we włosach z tyłu głowy dużą kokardę.. Po lewej stronie pod ścianą stoi stolik przykryty białą, koronkową serwetą, na której stoi wazon z różami. Zdjęcie zostało wykonane w atelier fotograficznym.

The photo shows a girl of about 10 years of age in a white dress reaching her knees decorated by myrtle branches. She is holding a burning candle in her right hand and a rosary and a sacred picture in her left. The girl is wearing white stockings and court shoes and she has a big bow in her hair. On the left by the wall there is a table covered with a white lace tablecloth on which a vase of roses is placed. The photo was taken in a photographer’s studio

The photo sent to the contest named “Photography of the Polish village pre-1948” organized in 1983 by the quarterly “Fotografia” (Photography) and the weekly “Nowa Wieś” (New village). Copy of the photo kept at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (former Institute for the History of Material Culture)
