Studies were made using the DG method (Traczyk T. 1967), of net herb layer production in the Circaeo-Alnetum Oberd. 1953 association in the Bialowieża National Park in 1967. It was found that 100 samples per 0.1 m2 is too small a number to permit of calculating the population density of different species in the herb layer with only a small degree of error. The calculated net production of dry biomass in the herb layer was 1,074.572 + 140.016 kg/ha, with standard error of 6.6%. This production is formed by a small number of herb layer species, while the remaining species occurring in this layer form only a small percentage of the total production.
