In a pine forest the complete exchange of individuals of particular bird species takes place with a varying frequency: either every year (as in the case of Erithacus rubecula (L.)) or it may last even 7 years (Parus cristatus L.). A relation is observed between the age and wintering habits of birds and their attachment to the breeding area. Adult individuals which have at least once returned to the breeding area continue doing so in the next years. Other adult and young birds of migratory species and partly migrating ones are less attached to the breeding area than resident species. Individuals of the resident species have more constant breeding territories than individuals of migrating species.
