Settlement of Przeworsk Culture in the flood plains of the western Sandomierz Basin

The authors discuss the use of flood plains in the western part of the Sandomierz Basin by people of the Roman period in a more permanent way than just by occasional penetration. Such use is suggested by the results of recent archaeological research in the Vistula river valley to the east of Kraków and in the alluvial fan of the Raba river. The article characterizes the nature of this settlement in the context of palaeogeographic studies, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of settlement in the flood plains

W artykule zwrócono uwagę na możliwości wykorzystywania równin zalewowych zachodniej części Kotliny Sandomierskiej jako obszarów nie tylko penetrowanych przez ludność w okresie rzymskim, ale także jako miejsc jej bardziej długotrwałego pobytu. Pozwalają na to rezultaty ostatnich kilku lat badań archeologicznych prowadzonych w dolinie Wisły, na wschód od Krakowa, oraz nieco starsze odkrycia na stożku napływowym Raby. Podjęto próbę wyjaśnienia charakteru tego osadnictwa w kontekście badań paleogeograficznych, wskazując na korzyści i trudności wynikające z lokalizacji osad na równinie zalewowej
