The field experiment was conducted to measure accumulation of carbon during 11 months in the newly established, 8years old and permanent meadows. The decomposition of grass litter placed on the sand surface in mecocosms was investigated. It was found that the older the meadow, the greater the rate of litter humification while the mineralization was accelerated in the newly established meadow.
