Le génie militaire au XVe siècle et don reflet dans "Tirant le Blanc"
The article describes military art in late Middle Ages on the basis of Dotzè llibre del Crestà (Twelfth Book of the Christian), a text by Catalan Franciscan monk Francesc Eiximenis. Based on this text, it presents a classification of military strategies and machines used to conduct military operations: machines launching stones and other projectiles, machines used to destroy walls and construction used during sieges, both by attackers and defenders. Next, it describes the influence of the Eiximenis’ text on Tirant lo Blanc, a novel by Valencian knight Joanot Martorell, referencing numerous battles described in it. Based on this, the author draws conclusions and hypotheses regarding knowledge of period military techniques and military art possessed by the author of the novel, as well as adequacy of their usage in the text.
