Doctorates in the field of social work : possible, needed, necessary?

Artykuł stanowi pokłosie osobistych doświadczeń i refleksji autorki związanych ze studiami doktoranckimi realizowanymi w obszarze dyscypliny naukowej, jaką jest socjologia, ale o wyraźnym ukierunkowaniu na pracę socjalną, jako specyficzną dyscyplinę praktyczną. Autorka podejmuje próbę krytycznego przedstawienia kwestii miejsca samej pracy socjalnej w świecie praktyki społecznej i w przestrzeni akademickiej. Nakreśla także swój sposób myślenia o studiach doktoranckich w interdyscyplinarnym obszarze nauk społecznych oraz podkreśla znaczenie podejmowania badawczych i naukowych działań z zakresu problematyki pracy socjalnej na tym poziomie kształcenia.

The article is based on the author's personal experiences and reflections related to doctoral studies in the area of sociology but with a clear focus on social work as a specific practical discipline. The author attempts to present critically the issue of the place of social work in the field of social practice and in academic space. Also outlines her way of thinking about doctoral studies in the interdisciplinary area of social sciences and stresses the importance of undertaking research and scientific activities in the field of social work at this level of education.
