Wyobrażenia konferencji jałtańskiej w dyskursie emigracji po II wojnie światowej

Over half a million Poles are estimated not to return to Communist-controlled Poland from the West after the Second World War. This wave of migrants comprised war exiles, ex-servicemen who had fought in the Polish Armed Forces in the West and Displaced Persons. This article identifies selected images, symbolic representations and mythic narratives interwoven into the Polish post-WWII emigrant discourse. The focus is on the meeting of the "Big Three" at Yalta in February 1945, its symbolic representation and significance for Polish emigrants. Drawing on their press, literary, educational and propaganda texts, political programs and other sources produced by them in the West between 1945 and 1956, it interprets the images and mythic narratives describing the betrayal of Poland at Yalta. The article analyses their content and attempts to answer the question of their social and political functions in the post-war Polish emigrant communities scattered across the non-communist world.
