Bálint Balassi, Stefan Batory i Márton Szepsi Csombor : "az oceánum mellett"
Bálint Balassi (1554–1594) was the greatest poet of the Hungarian Renaissance. He was connected with the 16th century Poland as he visited it three times. His second visit to Poland was with the court of the newly elected king, prince of Transylvania, Stephen Báthory (1533–1586). They both fought in the war against Gdańsk (1576–1577) whose citizens refused to recognize the new sovereign. At the beginning of the 17th century a Hungarian traveller Márton Szepsi Csombor (1595–1623) followed in their track, describing his stay ‘by the Ocean’ (a phrase from a poem by Balassi) in one of the chapters of Europica varietas.
