At the time of common migration and anxiousness connected with accretion of xenophobic behaviours it is the role of a teacher to develop in students the attitudes of understanding the difference of their foreign peers coming to schools often with the burden of incredible difficult experiences. As far as the problem is concerned, it is literature that can help in opening the eyes of young people to the newcomers’ reasons of otherness, alienation and even frustration. The author of the paper analyzes the literary pictures of the sense of strangeness felt by a child in face of national, ideological and religious fanaticism (Renata Piątkowska: Hebanowe serce [Ebony heart], Sumia Sukkar: Chłopiec z Aleppo, który namalował wojnę [A boy of Aleppo, who painted the war], Jarosław Mikołajewski: Wędrówka Nabu [Nabu’s wandering].
