Leo Tolstoy and an idea of negative freedom : a few introductory remarks
In this paper the author draws attentnion to possible Leo Tolstoy's inspirations of the conceptions of negative liberty worked out by Sir Isaiah Berlin. This article has two general aims: (1) to present some remarks on Berlin's conception of liberty, and (2) to reconstruct Tolstoy's idea of liberty which was presented in the papers created during the First Russian Revolution (1905-1907). The author concentrates on the convergences between the Russian writer and the British thinker as far as freedom is concerned. The next aim of this paper is to present Tolstoy's Christian anarchism as doctrine which arises from his seeking for individual freedom.
