The evolution of alternative book forms in the twenty-first century (based on the literature review)

Przedmiotem pracy są alternatywne formy książki, które powstały w XX wieku. Analizie poddane zostały: książki mówione (audiobooki), e-booki i czytniki książek elektronicznych, literatura hipertekstowa, blogi i blooki oraz liberatura. Celem pracy jest ukazanie rozwoju alternatywnych form książki w XX i XXI wieku w Polsce i na świecie. Przytoczone zostały definicje książki tradycyjnej, a także form nawiązujących do niej postacią, bądź ideą i funkcją. Dodatkowo podano objaśnienia terminów hipertekst i liternet, która są pokrewne. W pracy przedstawiono krótki rys historyczny związany z ewolucją pisma i książki tradycyjnej, który stanowi tło do opisywanego w dalszej części rozwoju nowatorskich form książki. Scharakteryzowano historię powstania i rozwoju poszczególnych alternatywnych form książki. Określono ich społeczny zasięg w kontekście stanu czytelnictwa w Polsce. Na podstawie polskich i zagranicznych raportów oraz wyników badań, zebrano dane określające stan rynków książki alternatywnej. Opierając się na prognozach określono zarówno perspektywy rozwoju nowatorskich form książki, jak i przyszłość książek tradycyjnych.

The thesis focuses on the alternative book forms which have arisen in the twentieth century. It analyses audiobooks, electronic books and dedicated e-book readers, hyperfiction, blogs, blooks and liberature. It presents the evolution of these forms in twentieth and twenty-first century with reference to Polish and global book market. This work gathers definitions of traditional printed book and forms that resemble its shape or function. It also quotes some related terms, like hypertext and liternet. The evolution of book and writing is shortly described. Previously noted history of book provides a background for the beginning and development of alternative book forms. Use of these forms amongst society is considered, and then compared with state of reading in Poland. The thesis presents status of alternative book forms market based on the research, surveys and reports. According to the forecasts, the future of traditional and alternative books is foreseen.
