ZBIEG [Z]OKOLICZNOŚCI. O grach przypadku w powieści II połowy XX wieku (na podstawie "Nieśmiertelności" Milana Kundery, "Jeśli zimową nocą podróżny" Italo Calvino oraz "Terminalu" Marka Bieńczyka).

Niniejsza praca stanowi próbę lektury wybranych powieści z drugiej połowy XX wieku: Nieśmiertelności Milana Kundery, Jeśli zimową nocą podróżny Italo Calvino oraz Terminalu Marka Bieńczyka, poprzez pryzmat jednej z występujących w nich kategorii - przypadkowości. Pojęcie to zrobiło w ubiegłej dekadzie ogromną karierę, wywierając także istotny wpływ na literaturę. Wybrany okres historyczno-literacki to moment ścierania się różnych tendencji, nazywany przez jednych krytyków późną nowoczesnością, a przez innych - postmodernizmem. Autorka pragnie przyglądnąć się wybranym tekstom rozpostartym pomiędzy dwoma, wyróżnionymi przez Briana McHale’a dominantami: epistemologiczną i ontologiczną. Przybliżenie się do zaproponowanych tekstów uzmysławia, że ich przemianom zawsze towarzyszyło pojęcie kontyngencji, więcej: przyczyniało się do zachodzących w tekstach granicy modernizmu i postmodernizmu zmian, jak również stanowiło element „porządkujący” nowe światy przedstawione, język, narrację, figury podmiotu, bohaterów, czyli – poetykę dzieł. Wyróżnionym dominantom będą odpowiadać poziomy lektury: pierwszej – interpretacyjny, rozumiany jako temat danego utworu, który pozwala na próbę sformułowania koncepcji „filozofii przypadku”, drugiej – teorii przypadku odzwierciedlonej w narracji, strukturze badanego świata utworu.

The following paper endeavours a thorough examination of three 20th century novels: Immortality by Milan Kundera, If on a winter's night a traveler by Italo Calvino and Terminal by Marek Bieńczyk, read through the prism of their common constituent which is the contingency. This term became extremely popular in the passed decade and affected essentially the world of literature. The chosen period in history and literature was marked by constant confrontation of various tendencies and was defined by critics as late modernism and also as postmodernism. The author of the paper studies the texts that are outstretched between the two dominants, as distinguished by Brian McHale: the epistemological and the ontological. By approaching the proposed texts, one discovers that contingency was always inscribed into their transitions, and moreover, enabled and provoked changes that characterize the texts from that period and functioned as an element that arranged the new fictional worlds, languages, narration, narrative points of view, the structure of protagonists – the poetics of the texts. To both of the abovementioned dominants belong different levels of reading: the first one is the interpretative reading, implied as a theme of the novel, that allows the attempt to formulate  “a philosophy of contingency” and the second one which is the theory of contingency reflected in the narrative structure of the examined novel.
