WAM Publishing House in years: 1998-2008

Wydawnictwo WAM to najstarsza katolicka oficyna wydawnicza w Polsce. Założone w 1872 roku, przetrwało rozbiór Polski, dwie wojny światowe i reżim Polski Rzeczpospolitej Ludowej. Dotąd pojawiły się dwie publikacje na temat WAM. Ta praca jest kontynuacją ostatniej z nich. Opisuje historię Wydawnictwa od początku jego istnienia, aż do czasów obecnych, kładąc nacisk na prezentację polityki wydawniczej WAM w latach 1998-2008. Zgromadzono i przeanalizowano wszystkie wydawnictwa, które ukazały się nakładem WAM w omawianej dekadzie. W badaniach wykorzystano metodę analizy bibliograficznej. Ta praca jest pierwszą publikacją prezentującą nie tylko historię Wydawnictwa, ale i politykę wydawniczą stosowaną przez WAM oraz uwzględniającą działalność marketingową i promocyjną podejmowaną przez to najbardziej rozpoznawalne wydawnictwo katolickie w Polsce.

WAM Publishing house is the eldest catholic publishing house in Poland. Set up in Cracow in 1872, it survived partition of Poland, two second world wars and the regime of The People’s Republic of Poland. So far, there are two publications dedicated to history of WAM. This study is a continuation of the latest one. It describes the history of WAM from the beginning of its existence to the present times, with the emphasis put on presenting the WAM publishing policy in the years 1998 to 2008. All publications, published by WAM during the examined decade are collected and discussed precisely. The method of bibliographic analysis is used in order to find general information about the WAM publishing policy in the years 1998 to 2008 and predict what direction WAM will take to remain one of the top publishing houses in Poland. This study is the first publication presenting the history, the publishing policy as well as marketing and promotion activities of the most recognized catholic publishing house in Poland.
