Catalans identity – myth or reality

Tożsamość jest kwestią, która od wieków towarzyszy człowiekowi podczas odpowiedzi na pytanie „kim jestem?”. Jest jednym z podstawowych elementów tworzących jednostkę i składających się na pojęcie „ja”. Celem pracy jest nie tylko dotarcie do znaczenia, jakie miała tożsamość dla ludzi żyjących w dawnej Hiszpanii, ale i porównanie owej zamierzchłej tożsamości z jej współczesną wersją. Interesuje mnie także dotarcie do jej znaczenia dla współczesnego młodszego oraz starszego społeczeństwa. Katalonia na przestrzeni wielu lat była poddawana zmianom, które doprowadziły ją do obecnego stanu. Były to głównie zmiany związane z ówczesną globalizacją (odkrywanie nowych lądów przez Kolumba oraz migracje ludności południowo-amerykańskiej do Hiszpanii) jak również te płynące z ręki Korony Hiszpańskiej.

Identity is an issue which for centuries accompanied in main answer for the question"Who am I?". It is one of the basic elements making up the unit and make up the concept of "I". The aim of this work is not only to reach out the importance which was identity for people living in ancient Spain, but also a comparison of this ancient identities with its contemporary version. I am also interested in reach its importance for modern junior and senior population. Catalonia over the years has undergone changes, which led it to the current state. These were mainly changes associated with contemporary globalization (the discovery of new lands by Columbus and the migrations from the American South to Spain) as well as those coming from the hand of the Spanish Crown.
