The Theatre of Siwki

The main subject of my work is to present the phenomenon of siwki - traditional procession of carol singers at polish villlages taking place every year during Easter. Siwki are unique example of theater performance, which are - like all these kind of folk phenomens - missed in writing and thinking about theater. The orgin of carol singers procession are primeval rites, and their environment is holiday. Nowadays, Siwki lost their primeval meaning but still exist, and we can call them a specific type of theater. My work presents theatrical and dramaturgic aspects of the theater of Siwki as well as shows their dissimilarity from dominant theatrical forms. Moreover, I present thier similarity to the carnival and carnival atmosphere.

Praca ma na celu zaprezentowanie zjawiska Siwków, czyli corocznych pochodów kolędników wiosennych odbywających na wsiach Wielkopolskich. Główną częścią pracy jest obszerny opis tego zjawiska, nazywanego przez autorkę od początku teatrem. Jednocześnie jest on analizą Siwków pod względem ich aspektów dramaturgicznych oraz przedstawieniowych. Praca prezentuje tło etnologiczne dotyczące stanu badań nad pochodami kolędniczymi, ze wskazaniem ich prawdopodobnej genezy oraz źródeł. Porównuje również Siwki do dominujących form teatralnych, wskazując na podobieństwa oraz różnice. Siwki na tym tle okazują się być zjawiskiem odrębnym i wyjątkowym, spokrewnionym z kategoriami święta oraz karnawału.
