The Images of Femininity. Femininity in the Films of Jean-Luc Godarda and Todd Haynes

Praca analizuje konstrukcje kobiecości i kobiecość filmowej formy w wybranych filmach Jean-Luca Godarda i Todda Haynesa. Na przykładzie filmów z różnych etapów twórczości tych reżyserów, przedstawia kobiecość jako kategorię wewnętrznie sprzeczną i - poprzez to - konstruowaną inaczej niż męskość. Dzięki temu kobiecość posiada funkcje podważania binarnych opozycji, ale z drugiej strony, ta dwuznaczność podważa jej wiarygodność i - co za tym idzie - społeczną i kulturową widzialność.

The paper is analysing the constructions of femininity, and the femininity of film form in the films of Jean-Luc Godarda and Todd Haynes. Drawing its argument on analyse film from different periods of the directors's career, the paper is showing that femininity, unlike masculinity is an intracontradictory category. For this femininity has an ability to negotiate binary oppositions, but - on the other hand this ambiguity puts in question the plausibility of the category - therefore - effects social and cultural visibility of femininity.
