Nursing care for patients with canser of the mouth, tangue and throat

The main goal of the study is to present the role of nurses in caring for patients with cancer of the mouth, tongue and throat. The paper presents key issues and problems that may arise in the course of the work of nurse who takes care of patients with cancer in this region. The study group consisted of 30 patients treated at the Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital in Cracow between 1 April 2010 and 31 March 2012 because of the cancer of mouth, tongue and throat. In the group of patients among others were analyzed coexisting diseases and the most common nursing problems with indication of the possible effective solutions. Attention was paid to physical and mental condition of patients and the quality of life of patients with a history of surgery.

Głównym założeniem pracy jest przedstawienie roli pielęgniarki w opiece u pacjentów z nowotworami jamy ustnej, języka i gardła. W pracy przedstawiono najistotniejsze zagadnienia i problemy mogące wystąpić w przebiegu pracy pielęgniarki sprawującej opiekę nad pacjentem z chorobą nowotworową tego regionu. Badaniem objęto grupę 30 chorych leczonych w Klinice Otolaryngologii Szpitala Uniwersyteckiego w Krakowie pomiędzy 1kwietnia 2010, a 31 marca 2012 roku z powodu nowotworów jamy ustnej, języka i gardła. W badanej grupie pacjentów dokonano analizy między innymi, chorób współistniejących, najczęściej występujących problemów pielęgnacyjnych ze wskazaniem możliwości skutecznego ich rozwiązania. Zwrócono uwagę na stan fizyczny i psychiczny pacjentów oraz na jakość życia chorych po przebytych zabiegach operacyjnych.
