Volunteerism from a theoretical and practical perspective during systemic transformation period in Poland

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie wolontariatu w Polsce, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem przemian okresu transformacji systemowej. Przedstawiony został także materiał empiryczny związany z osobistym zaangażowaniem wolontariackim. Praca składa się z trzech rozdziałów.W pierwszym przedstawione zostało naukowe ujęcie idei wolontariatu. Rozdział drugi dotyczy historii rozwoju działalności społecznej na tle polskich uwarunkowań politycznych, gospodarczych i społecznych. W trzecim rozdziale opisane zostały doświadczenia własne pozwalające dostrzec zależność między specyfiką organizacji pozarządowej a jakością aktywności wolontariackiej. Analiza danych wskazuje na trzy czynniki wpływające na wolontariat: ludzi wewnątrz organizacji, ludzi zewnątrz organizacji oraz postawę samego wolontariusza.

The aim of the thesis is to present volunteerism with particular emphasis on the changes of the systemic transformation period in Poland. The empirical evidence related to the personal voluntary experience is also presented. The work consists of three chapters. The first chapter presents the idea of volunteerism from an academic point of view. The second chapter deals with the history of the social activity development in Poland with political, economic and social conditions in the background. The third chapter describes personal experiences that show the relation between the specificity of the NGO and the quality of a voluntary activity. The data analysis identifies three factors in volunteering: people in an organization, people outside of an organization and a volunteer's attitude.
