The activity of Museum of Cieszyn Silesia in context of multicultural regional heritage

Multiculturalism and preservation of the cultural heritage of national, ethnical and religious minorities has been an issue of European Union policy for many years now. Various cultural institutions play a huge role in disseminating them by promoting important projects and enterprises undertaken in the field of multiculturalism. This thesis is aimed at depicting intricant image of Cieszyn Silesia region over the years as well as presenting initiatives which are currently being undertaken by Museum of Cieszyn Silesia to promote cooperation in this particular area, especially for the benefit of Polish and Czech communities’ integration. This study also discusses the history of multiculturalism both in Poland and worldwide and at the same time presents main information relating to Cieszyn Silesia. Selected national and ethnical minorities inhabiting this area are described as well as the aspect of multi-confessionalism in this region. Short history of Museum of Cieszyn Silesia is introduced and its chosen initiatives carried out in order to integrate local community.

Wielokulturowość i ochrona dziedzictwa kultury mniejszości narodowych, etnicznych i religijnych stanowi od wielu lat przedmiot polityki wielu państw Unii Europejskiej. Ogromną rolę w jej upowszechnianiu pełnią różne instytucje kultury, promując ważne projekty i przedsięwzięcia z dziedziny wielokulturowości. Celem pracy jest ukazanie złożonego oblicza Śląska Cieszyńskiego na przestrzeni lat, a także inicjatyw, jakie podejmuje obecnie Muzeum Śląska Cieszyńskiego na rzecz współpracy regionu, szczególnie zaś – integracji środowisk polskich i czeskich. W pracy omówiono historię wielokulturowości na świecie i w Polsce, a także najważniejsze informacje związane ze Śląskiem Cieszyńskim. Przedstawione zostały wybrane mniejszości narodowe i etniczne zamieszkujące ten teren, poruszono także aspekt wielowyznaniowości mieszkańców regionu. Przybliżono krótką historię Muzeum Śląska Cieszyńskiego, a także wybrane inicjatywy podejmowane przez tę instytucję, mające na celu integrację mieszkańców regionu.
