The assimilation of Muslim immigrants in Western Europe referring to the Netherlands

The subject of this thesis is an assimilation of Muslim immigrants in Europe referring to the Netherlands. I wanted to present the obstacles and difficulties which immigrants must face and what plays an essential and important role in the process of their assimilation. In my work I also tried to determine whether the massive inflow of Middle East immigrants is a concern for the indigenous Europeans.In the first chapter of my thesis I presented a brief history of the emergence of Muslims in Europe. Then I presented the main reasons for their migration and how many of them and in which European countries they are.In the second chapter of the work I presented the image of Muslims in Europe, based on analysis of two surveys conducted by me in early 2012 in the Netherlands. Surveys were addressed both to Muslim immigrants and the Dutch, in order to deliver information about the topic of my thesis from both perspectives.

Niniejsza praca licencjacka obejmuje temat asymilacji imigrantów muzułmańskich w Europie na przykładzie Holandii. Chciałam w niej przedstawić przeszkody i trudności, jakie napotykają imigranci oraz to, co odgrywa istotną i ważną rolę w procesie ich asymilacji. W swojej pracy usiłowałam również rozstrzygnąć, czy masowy napływ ludności z krajów Bliskiego Wschodu stanowi problem dla rdzennych mieszkańców Europy. W pierwszym rozdziale pracy przedstawiłam krótki zarys historyczny dotyczący pojawienia się muzułmanów w Europie. Następnie przedstawiłam główne przyczyny ich migracji oraz ich rozmieszczenie i liczbę w krajach europejskich. W drugim rozdziale pracy przedstawiłam wizerunek muzułmanina w Europie, na podstawie analizy dwóch przeprowadzonych przeze mnie ankiet na początku 2012 roku w Holandii. Ankiety skierowane były zarówno do imigrantów muzułmańskich jak i do Holendrów, aby dostarczyć wiadomości na prezentowany przeze mnie temat z obu perspektyw.
