The vision of the Church and its satirical presentation in Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio.

The purpose of this M.A. thesis is to present the concept of the vision of The Church and its satirical representation in Decameron, by Giovanni Boccaccio. The introduction contains a brief description of Italy in the 13th century, with the main emphasis on where The Church stood in terms of its position with the people and the state. The first chapter presents short stories that focus on the naivety and shrewdness of the clergy. The second chapter focuses on the analysis of the novella’s, where the main theme is the promiscuity of the individual members of the clergy, as well as the link between this type of behaviour and the power of the human mind.The final chapter is divided into two parts. The first is dedicated to the women who have given themselves to The Church, in other words, the nuns, whereas second part, analyses stories which tell of all the other sins and flaws of the clerymen. In summary, with the help of careful analysis, I aim to answer the question of “How are the problems of The Church presented in the work of Boccaccio.”

L’obiettivo della tesi è di presentare e di analizzare il tema della rappresentazione della Chiesa e la sua visione satirica nel Decameron di Giovanni Boccaccio. L’introduzione della tesi contiene una breve descrizione della situazione nell’Italia del Trecento con un accento particolare sulla condizione della Chiesa e i suoi rapporti con la società e con il potere politico. Nel primo capitolo vengono presentate le novelle che riguardano il problema dell’ingenuità e della furbizia dei religiosi. In seguito appaiono le analisi delle novelle legate alla lussuria dei religiosi, che pure dimostrano il legame tra la lussuria e l’ingegno. L’ultimo capitolo contiene due parti. La prima è dedicata alle donne nel mondo della Chiesa, cioè le monache. Nella seconda parte ci si trovano i racconti che presentano soprattutto diversi vizi dei religiosi. Nella conclusione si riassumono i contenuti delle singole analisi per poter rispondere alla domanda, quali problemi della Chiesa rivela Boccaccio nella sua opera.

Celem pracy jest przedstawienie tematu związanego z obrazem Kościoła oraz jego satyryczną wizją w Dekameronie Giovanni Boccaccio’a.Wstęp pracy zawiera krótki opis sytuacji Włoch w XIII wieku, w którym szczególny nacisk kładzie się na położenie, w jakim znajdował się Kościół oraz na jego relacje ze społeczeństwem oraz władzą. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawione zostają nowele, które poruszają problem naiwności oraz sprytu poszczególnych przedstawicieli kleru. W następnym rozdziale pojawiają się analizy nowelek, których głównym tematem jest rozwiązłość niektórych duchownych, oraz powiązanie tego typu zachowań z potęgą ludzkiego umysłu. Ostatni rozdział składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza dedykowana jest kobietom należącym do świata Kościoła, czyli mniszkom. Natomiast druga zawiera analizy opowiadań, które przedstawiają różnego rodzaju grzeszki i wady duchownych. W części podsumowującej staram się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, jakie problemy, z którymi boryka się Kościół, demaskuje w swoim dziele Boccaccio.
