Literary images of the city in the works of Janusz Glowacki and Zadie Smith. A comparative study

Praca analizuje obecność tematyki miejskiej w literaturze polskiej i angielskiej na przykładzie twórczości Janusza Głowackiego i Zadie Smith. Za pomocą narzędzi badań kulturowych i ujęcia komparatystycznego ich teksty są analizowane z perspektywy miejskiej. Miasto funkcjonuje w ich powieściach na wielu poziomach, i można odnaleźć między nimi wiele podobieństw i różnic w sposobie kreacji wizerunków miejskich. W trzech rozdziałach pracy dokonałem szczegółowego porównania ich powieści.

The thesis analyzes the theme of a city in Polish and English literature, based on works of Janusz Glowacki and Zadie Smith. It utilizes cultural studies and a comparative perspective in order to analyze this theme. The city functions on many different levels in their novels, and there can be found many similarities between them, as well as differences. In the three chapters of my thesis I had compared their novels in great detail.
