The main topic of the master's thesis is escape from civilization. The author describes this issue in the context of the United States over the centuries. Beginning from discovery of Alaska, through transcedentalists (particular attention pays to Henry David Thoreau and his life and achievements) to contemporary naturalists: Richard Proenneke and Christopher McCandless. It contains literature and film exemplifications of the case and the ecological reflections.
