The author attempts to show increasing, at the beginning of the second decade of the twenty-first century, role of the Navy in shaping American foreign policy, especially in the key and remote regions of the world. The main object of study is United States 5th Fleet, and the Middle East, the area where this unit operates.In the first chapter, author focuses on the description of the history of the United States Navy, since its beginnings in the late eighteenth century, to the present day. Author makes more in-depth analyzes of the characteristics of naval warfare by the U.S. after 1945 on selected examples. Also in this chapter, author describes the evolution of American maritime doctrines.In the second chapter author focuses on the Middle East. Briefly describes the most characteristic features of the region, as well as the history of American involvement in the Middle East. Carefully looking at the challenges that this region confronts American foreign policy in the recent period (2011 - 2012). Particular attention is paid to the description of the situation in Bahrain, a country which hosts on its territory the headquarter of the 5th Fleet.In chapter three, author tries to demonstrate the great importance of having a strong navy to the United States in the Middle East. This chapter begins with the characteristics of Unified Combatatnt Commands and numbered fleets systems. Briefly describe each of them, however, focuses on the CENTCOM, and especially the V Fleet. Describes the structure and features of this formation. He also describes the future potential of the U.S. Navy outlining its plans for the development. This chapter also describes actions of the U.S. Navy in the Middle East. Both, before and after the Fifth Fleet was established. Then proceeds to describe the most important marine threats occurring in the Middle East. Considered here are among others the increasing maritime potential of Iran, and maritime terrorism.At the end author tries to summarize the major advantages of the modern Navy. Both in times of peace and war, also reflects the changes currently affecting the entire U.S. armed forces after a decade of fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Autor stara się wykazać wzrastającą w początkach drugiej dekady XXI wieku rolę marynarki wojennej w kształtowaniu amerykańskiej polityki zagranicznej, szczególnie w kluczowych i odległych od USA regionach świata. Głównym przedmiotem pracy jest V Flota Stanów Zjednoczonych, a także Bliski Wschód, obszar, na którym jednostka ta operuje. W pierwszym rozdziale autor skupia się na opisie historii United States Navy. Od jej początków, pod koniec XVIII wieku, po czasy najnowsze. Autor w sposób bardziej dogłębny analizuje charakterystyczne cechy prowadzenia wojny morskiej przez USA po roku 1945 na wybranych przykładach. Również w tym rozdziale autor opisuje ewolucję amerykańskich doktryn morskich.W rozdziale drugim autor skupia się na Bliskim Wschodzie. W sposób zwięzły opisuje najbardziej charakterystyczne cechy tego regionu, a także historię amerykańskiego zaangażowania na Bliskim Wschodzie. Dokładnie przygląda się wyzwaniom jakie rejon ten stawia przed amerykańską polityką zagraniczną w ostatnim okresie (lata 2011 - 2012). Szczególną uwagę przywiązuje do opisu sytuacji w Bahrajnie, państwie, które gości na swoim terytorium siedzibę V Floty. W rozdziale trzecim autor stara się wykazać ogromną wagę jaką ma posiadanie silnej marynarki dla Stanów Zjednoczonych na Bliskim Wschodzie. Rozdział ten rozpoczyna od charakterystyki systemy Unified Combatant Commands i flot numerowanych. Pokrótce opisuje każde z nich, skupia się jednak na CENTCOM, a zwłaszcza na V Flocie. Opisuje strukturę i wyposażenie tej formacji. Zastanawia się także nad przyszłością potencjału amerykańskiej marynarki wojennej nakreślając jej plany rozwoju. W rozdziale tym opisuje także działania amerykańskiej marynarki wojennej na Bliskim Wschodzie. Zarówno przed, jak i po powstaniu V Floty. Następnie przechodzi do opisu najważniejszych zagrożeń morskich występujących na Bliskim Wschodzie. Rozważane tu są między innymi kwestie rosnącego potencjału morskiego Iranu, czy terroryzmu morskiego. Na zakończenie stara się podsumować największe zalety współczesnej marynarki wojennej. Zarówno w czasie pokoju, jak i wojny. Zastanawia się również nad zmianami, które dotykają obecnie całość amerykańskich sił zbrojnych po dekadzie walk w Afganistanie i Iraku.
