The use of music in film on the example of the Park Chan-wook’s Vengeance Trilogy

Praca zarysowuje temat funkcjonowania muzyki w filmie, zarówno w polskiej, jak i zagranicznej myśli muzykologicznej oraz filmoznawczej. W oparciu o literaturę przedmiotu ukazuje różnorodne cele zastosowania muzyki w kinematografii. Na poparcie teorii autorka dokonuje analizy wybranych przykładów, jakimi są trzy filmy Park Chan-wooka nazywane Trylogią Zemsty: Pan Zemsta (Boksuneun naui geot, 2002), Oldboy (2003) i Pani Zemsta (Chinjeolhan geumjassi, 2005). Filmy badane są w ujęciu filmoznawczym pod względem funkcjonowania w nich muzyki i dźwięku. Dodatkowo, praca zawiera również opis sylwetki koreańskiego reżysera i jego dorobku artystycznego.

Thesis describes the Polish and foreign thought of both musicology and film experts concerning the functioning of music in movies. Based on the literature, it reveals a variety of objectives for using music in film. In support of the theory, the author analyzes selected examples, which are the Park Chan-wook’s three movies called the Vengeance Trilogy: Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance (Boksuneun naui geot, 2002), Oldboy (2003) and Lady Vengeance (Chinjeolhan geumjassi, 2005). The movies are examined within the cinematology spectrum in terms of functioning of music and sound. In addition, the thesis also includes a description of Park Chan-wook’s profile and his work.
