Collective identity strategies of Czech National Revival and LGBT movements

Aim of this thesis is to analyse the ways in which the past and the historical writings affect the process of shaping the collective identity. Work is of comparative nature and the discussed communities are the Czech intellectuals associated with the nineteenth-century national revival movement and the contemporary Polish and Czech intellectuals associated with the LGBT movements. The purpose of the comparison is to show identity strategies that are repeated by both of these groups. These issues are analysed according to the perspective of narratology and semiotics of culture and the key issues of this thesis are historical emplotment, problem of beginning and narrative coherence. In the last chapter examples of historical mystifications and manipulations are shown and analysed in a broader historical and theoretical context.

Celem pracy jest analiza sposobów, w jaki przeszłość i pisarstwo historyczne wpływają na proces kształtowania się tożsamości zbiorowej. Praca ma charakter porównawczy, a omawiane zbiorowości to czescy intelektualiści związani z dziewiętnastowiecznym ruchem odrodzenia narodowego oraz współcześni polscy i czescy intelektualiści związani z ruchem emancypacji mniejszości seksualnych. Celem porównania jest ukazanie strategii tożsamościowych powtarzających się u obydwu wspomnianych grup. Omawiane problemy analizowane są m.in. z perspektywy narratologii i semiotyki kultury, a kluczowe dla opracowania są takie zagadnienia, jak fabularyzacja w ramach pisarstwa historycznego, poszukiwanie momentu początku oraz spójność kreowanej narracji. W ostatnim rozdziale omówione i ukazane w szerszym kontekście historycznym i teoretycznym zostały przykłady mistyfikacji i manipulacji historycznych.
