Definiuje on pojęcie telenoweli, porównuje ten gatunek do opery mydlanej i pokrótce przedstawia sytuację telenoweli w Kolumbii.Rozdział drugi poświęcony został okolicznośćiom powstania kolumbisjkiej telenoweli "Yo soy Betty, la fea". Opisane zostały okoliczności powstania produkcji, jej wymiar globalny i rola tej telenoweli jako popularnego formatu telewizyjnego.Rozdział trzeci odwołuje się z kolei do amerykańskiej "Ugly Betty". Serial telewizyjny porównany tu został do telenoweli, a sama "Ugly Betty" do estetyki kampu.Dalej, pokrótce opisane zostało społeczeństwo Latynosów w Stanach Zjednoczonych, zjawisko latynizacji i latinidad.W czwartym rozdziale obie produkcje zostały porównane. Opisane zostały wybrane różnice i podobieństwa między serialami oraz ich bohaterowie. Ostatni rozdział opiera się na książce "Morfologia bajki" Włodzimierza Proppa i analizuje "Yo soy Betty, la fea" i "Ugly Betty" pod kątem bajki. Opisane tu zostały funkcje, role i motywacje bohaterów produkcji.

Master’s thesis “Telenovela Yo soy Betty, la fea and its adaptations according to the example of the American tv series Ugly Betty” has the aim of drawing a comparison between both productions and, especially, describing the most important similarities and differences.The first chapter specifies theoretical issues concerning telenovela. It presents the definition of telenovela, compares this genre to soap opera and briefly outlines the situation of telenovela in Columbia.Chapter 2 was dedicated to circumstances surrounding the origins of Columbian telenovela "Yo soy Betty, la fea". It covers the origins, background, global dimension and the role of the production as a popular television show.Chapter Three, in turn, refers to the American "Ugly Betty". Television series is compared here to telenovela and "Ugly Betty" itself to Camp aesthetics. Subsequently the Latino community of the United States of America and the latinization phenomenon and Latinidad are portrayed.In the fourth chapter both productions were compared. Selected differences and similarities between the shows and the characters were put forward.The last chapter is based on the book by Vladimir Propp" Morphology of the Folktale" and analyzes "Yo soy Betty, la fea" and "Ugly Betty" from the fairy-tale point of view. Herein the functions, roles and motivation of the characters are presented.
