Development factors of the City of Radom

The aim of this essay is to determine the quality of both the development factors and the economic development of the city of Radom. In this essay, the terms such as ‘regional development’ and ‘local development’ are explained, as well as the theories and concepts related to regional and local development and the different classifications of development factors are discussed. The analysis encompasses both the internal factors (e.g. demographic resources, human capital, social capital, natural resources, technical and social infrastructure, and local government) as well as the external ones. The quality assessment of the factors influencing the development and the current state of economic development of Radom was created by comparing the city of Radom with the cities of Kielce, Czestochowa and Plock. Particular attention was paid to the future plans of Radom high school graduates as well as to the actions of local authorities. The main sources used in this essay include data provided by the BDL, GUS, Local Government Analysis System, the Tarnobrzeg Special Economic Zone Wisło-San, the District Labour Offices as well as the results of a survey performed independently amongst Radom high school graduates and an interview with a representative of the Office of Investor Radom. On the basis of this study, it can be found that, from all the analyzed cities, Radom represents the weakest quality of both internal and external factors, responsible for the economic development of the city.

Celem pracy było określenie czynników rozwoju gospodarczego poprzemysłowego miasta Radomia. Wyjaśniono pojęcie rozwoju regionalnego i lokalnego, omówiono teorie i koncepcje związane z rozwojem regionalnym i lokalnym oraz różne klasyfikacje czynników rozwojowych. Analizie poddano czynniki wewnętrzne (zasoby demograficzne, kapitał ludzki, kapitał społeczny, zasoby przyrodnicze, zaplecze miasta, infrastruktura techniczna i społeczna, samorząd lokalny) i zewnętrzne. Oceny jakości czynników kształtujących rozwój oraz obecny stan rozwoju gospodarczego Radomia dokonano poprzez porównanie z miastem Kielce, Częstochowa i Płock. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na przyszłe plany radomskich maturzystów oraz działania władz lokalnych. Korzystano z danych BDL GUS, Systemu Analiz Samorządowych, Tarnobrzeskiej Specjalnej Strefy Ekonomicznej Wisło-San, Powiatowych Urzędów Pracy oraz wyników samodzielnie wykonanego badania ankietowego wśród radomskich maturzystów i wywiadu przeprowadzonego z przedstawicielem radomskiego Biura Obsługi Inwestora. Na podstawie badań stwierdzono, że wśród badanych miast, Radom odznacza się najmniej korzystnymi czynnikami wewnętrznymi i zewnętrznymi, które są odpowiedzialne za stan gospodarczy miasta, klasyfikujące rozwój gospodarczy miasta Radomia na ostatnim miejscu wśród badanych miast.
