Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey - women who represent the idea of the American Dream

An attempt of my paper is to introduce the national ethos of the United States which is the idea of the American Dream. In my work, I will look for the answer to the question if it is possible to achieve the American Dream for someone who is black. This work will present the roots of the idea, the story of the struggle for equal rights for blacks and the contribution which Afro-American women made to the Civil Rights Movement. I will show two examples of prominent Afro-American women: Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey. On their basis, I will try to prove that achieving success and happiness is not only reserved for whites but it is also possible for black women, who have for years struggled with discrimination on the basis of race and gender.

Celem pracy jest próba przybliżenia etosu jakim jest American Dream. Poszukiwana jest w niej również odpowiedź na pytanie czy można zrealizować amerykański sen będąc Czarnym. W pracy pokazane zostaną mityczne, religijne i polityczne korzenie idei oraz historia walki o równouprawnienie dla czarnoskórych. Omówiony zostanie także wkład jaki wniosły czarnoskóre kobiety w ruch Civil Rights Movement. Na przykładzie dwóch wybitnych Afroamerykanek: Michelle Obamy i Opry Winfrey udowodnione zostanie, że osiągnięcie sukcesu i szczęścia nie jest zarezerwowane tylko i wyłącznie dla białych mieszkańców USA. Idea amerykańskiego snu jest wciąż żywa i możliwa do osiągnięcia nawet dla Czarnych kobiet, które przez lata borykały się z dyskryminacją ze względu na swoją rasę i płeć.
