Evaluation of the results of using selected physiotherapeutic treatments for patients after surgical decompression of the median nerve

Objectives: The evaluation of applied rehabilitation program efficiency based on the comparison of functional abilities of patients who underwent surgery due to carpal tunnel syndrome.Material and methods: Fifty patients treated in the local clinic in Sucha Beskidzka after the surgical release of the median nerve within the carpal tunnel were qualified for the study. Fifty hands were evaluated. The rehabilitation program was the same for all the patients. It included physiotherapy treatment and educating the patients. The functional condition of a hand was evaluated on the basis of patient’s subjective impressions visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Functional Status scale. Results: The analysis of treatment effects shows that after using the physiotherapy in the majority of patients, pain either released or disappeared, and the functional abilities of a hand improved.Conclusion: In patients operated due to CTS, improvement of functional abilities was observed after a rehabilitation program involving patient’s education an ambulatory surgery.

Cele badań: Ocena efektywności postępowania fizykoterapeutycznego oraz poprawy funkcji ręki, na podstawie subiektywnych odczuć pacjentów i możliwości ich codziennego funkcjonowania po leczeniu operacyjnym z powodu zespołu cieśni nadgarstka (ZCN).Materiał i metody: Badaniami objęto 50 pacjentów leczonych w Miejskiej Przychodni Zdrowia w Suchej Beskidzkiej, po chirurgicznym uwolnieniu nerwu pośrodkowego w kanale nadgarstka. Badanie oraz program fizjoterapii obejmował 50 rąk. Program rehabilitacji był taki sam dla wszystkich pacjentów. Obejmował leczenie fizjoterapeutyczne oraz edukacje pacjentów. Stan funkcjonalny ręki oceniano w oparciu o subiektywne odczucia pacjentów (skala VAS) oraz na podstawie wyników skali stopnia stanu funkcjonalnego (Functional Status Scale).Wyniki: Analiza wyników leczenia wykazała, że po zastosowaniu fizjoterapii u większości pacjentów nastąpiła poprawa funkcji rękiWnioski: U pacjentów operowanych z powodu ZCN, po rehabilitacji składającej się z edukacji oraz ambulatoryjnych zabiegów stwierdza się poprawę możliwości funkcjonalnych ręki.
