Growth and internationalization of cluster enterprises

In the article the growth and internationalization options of cluster enterprises were discussed and their consequences for individual companies and their industrial agglomerations were identified. The processes of growth and internationalization ensure access to tangible and intangible resources out of the source region and prevent the lock-in. On the other hand, they bring the threat of decomposing networks where the tacit knowledge was stored. The proposition was formulated that effective options of internationalization should address two objectives: 1) to establish international networking relationships so that lock-in is avoided in the access to external resources, 2) to prevent imitation and to develop the knowledge embedded in the network relationships of the source cluster. It is argued that selective relocation, both in the cost and in the differentiation strategies, is the option that meets those objectives.

W artykule przedstawiono procesy wzrostu i opcje internacjonalizacji przedsiębiorstw w klastrach oraz określono konsekwencje tych zjawisk zarówno dla firm, jak i branżowych aglomeracji, z których one pochodzą. Procesy wzrostu i umiędzynarodowienia przedsiębiorstw zapewniają dostęp do materialnych i niematerialnych zasobów poza regionem i pozwalają uniknąć izolacji. Z drugiej jednak strony niosą zagrożenie dekompozycją sieci dotychczasowych powiązań, w których zgromadzona była wiedza ukryta. Sformułowano tezę, że skuteczne opcje internacjonalizacji winny realizować dwa cele: 1) tworzenia międzynarodowych sieci powiązań, aby uniknąć izolacji w dostępie do zewnętrznych zasobów; 2) ochrony przed imitacją i rozwoju wiedzy zawartej w sieciowych powiązaniach źródłowego klastra. Opcją, która łączy oba cele, jest selektywna relokacja w obrębie zarówno strategii kosztowej, jak i strategii dyferencjacji.
