The Names of Uncountable Substance Unconventional Measure Units in Estonian Against a Background of the Names of these Types in Chosen Indoeuropean Languages

The thesis consists of two parts. The first one is the theoretical background and the second one is the analysis of the gathered lexical material. At the end of the thesis there is an anex, which consists of the list of the words discussed in the thesis. The thesis concerns the names of twenty objects which are so-called unconventional measure units. The names in Estonian, German, English, Polish and Russian were considered. The author's aim was to describe which features of the objects nad been underlined when giving them names. That is why the etymology of each of the names was taken under consideration. The other thesis goal was to find out which substances' names the certian names of the unconventional measure units combine with. As far as methodology is concerned the assumptions of cognitive linguistics were followed.

Praca składa się z dwóch części. Pierwsza stanowi wstęp teoretyczny, druga zaś to analiza zgromadzonego materiału leksykalnego. Pracę wieńczy aneks, który zawiera wykaz omówionych określeń.Praca dotyczy nazw dwudziestu desygnatów, które stanowią tak zwane niekonwencjonalne jednostki miary. Uwzględniono wyrażenia w języku estońskim, niemieckim, angielskim, polskim i rosyjskim. Autorka dążyła przede wszystkim do opisania tego, jakie cechy desygnatów uwypuklano podczas nadawania im nazw, dlatego też odwoływała się do etymologii poszczególnych słów. Innym celem pracy było ustalenie, do których nazw substancji odnoszą się poszczególne określenia niekonwencjonalnych jednostek miary. W metodologii brano pod uwagę założenia językoznawstwa kognitywnego.
