Collective memory as a cause of dispute in the public debate in Poland in 2000-2002

In recent years, an increased interest in the past in social and political life, as well as science. In the first chapter I present the beginnings of collective memory research in the world and in Poland. I understand the collective memory according to the approach of Maurice Halbwachs and Barbara Szacka. In the first part I present the relationship of collective memory and history science, as well as issues regarding the names of the collective memory and collective memory functions relevant to the community. The second chapter deals with collective memory of Jedwabne in 1941 as a result of public debate in Poland in the years 2000-2002. The time frame of the debate sets for me to show up in May 2000 by Jan Tomasz Gross's book, Sąsiedzi. Historia żydowskiego miasteczka and symbolic of its closing, the public prosecutor Radoslaw Ignatiev speech in July 2002. I focus on the dispute over the Jedwabne in the years 2000 - 2002 in the Polish public debate, because of length of the debate, the number of people involved in it and the involvement of almost all the media in Poland.

W ostatnich latach zauważalny jest wzrost zainteresowania przeszłością w życiu społecznym i politycznym, a także nauce. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiam początki badań pamięci zbiorowej na świeci oraz w Polsce. Pamięć zbiorową rozumiem przede wszystkim zgodnie z podejściem Maurica Halbwachsa oraz Barbary Szackiej. W pierwszej części prezentuję relacje pamięci zbiorowej i historii jako nauki, a także problemy związane z nazewnictwem pamięci zbiorowej oraz funkcje pamięci zbiorowej istotne dla wspólnoty. W drugim rozdziale zajmuję się pamięcią zbiorową o Jedwabnem w 1941 roku jako przyczyną debaty publicznej w Polsce w latach 2000 – 2002. Ramy czasowe debaty wyznacza dla mnie ukazanie się w maju 2000 roku książki Jana Tomasza Grossa Sąsiedzi. Historia żydowskiego miasteczka, a symboliczne jej zakończenie, wystąpienie prokuratora Radosława Ignatiewa w lipcu 2002 roku. Skupiam się na sporze o Jedwabnem w latach 2000 - 2002 w polskiej debacie publicznej, ze względu na niespotykaną do tej pory długość debaty, ilość osób w niej uczestniczących oraz zaangażowanie niemal wszystkich mediów w Polsce.
