Subcultures - historical perspective

This thesis is a cross-sectional, synthetic historical-comparative study of the origins, development, and the role of subcultures in contemporary culture. It focuses on the analysis of the main subcultures that have had the greatest impact on the socio-cultural transformation at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. The analysis begins with a review of the definitions of subcultures and their typology . Then it is followed by the analysis of particular subcultures in USA and Poland. The last part of thesis is about presence and significance of subcultures in contemporary reality.

Praca jest przekrojowym, syntetycznym studium historyczno-porównawczym na temat genezy, rozwoju i roli subkultur we współczesnej kulturze. Koncentruję się ona na analizie głównych subkultur, które wywarły największy wpływ na przemiany społeczno-kulturowe na przełomie XX i XXI wieku. Analiza rozpoczyna się od przeglądu definicji subkultur, ich typologii oraz przeglądu psychokulturowych przyczyn genezy i rozwoju zjawiska. Następie analizie zostają poddane ruchy subkulturowe w społeczeństwie amerykańskim oraz polskim. Ostatnim elementem pracy jest problematyka obecności, miejsca i znaczenia subkultur we współczesnej rzeczywistości.
