Jan Švankmajer - ostatni surrealista kina

The main theme of this thesis is to look at the work of a Czech filmmaker Jan Švankmajer, as a coherent and consequently implemented whole. According to the film’s author, Švankmajer, whose films bear the distinctive mark of the creative personality, he belongs to a small group of directors - authors. His movies are going to be fully explored in terms of their references to the philosophy of surrealism and the topics covered by the early surrealists. The aim of this study is to prove that the Czech artist can be called the last surrealist in the cinema. Not only because of the grotesque and absurd atmosphere of his films, but most of all, because of their subject matter, resulting from the surrealistic worldview of Jan Švankmajer.

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest spojrzenie na twórczość czeskiego reżysera Jana Švankmajera jako na spójną, konsekwentnie realizowaną całość. W myśl teorii autorstwa filmowego, Švankmajer, którego filmy noszą charakterystyczne piętno właściwej jemu osobowości twórczej, należy do wąskiego grona reżyserów – autorów. Filmy reżysera zostają poddane szczegółowej analizie pod kątem zawartych w nich odniesień do światopoglądu surrealizmu oraz do tematów poruszanych przez pierwszych surrealistów. Celem pracy jest udowodnienie, że czeski artysta może być nazywany ostatnim surrealistą kina. Nie tylko ze względu na groteskowy i absurdalny klimat jego filmów, lecz przede wszystkim ze względu na ich tematykę, wynikającą z surrealistycznego światopoglądu Jana Švankmajera.
